A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is immediately available to work on a joint project between the laboratories of Stephanie Jost and Sabrina Tan in the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research (http://cvvr.hms.harvard.edu) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. The position seeks a highly motivated candidate committed to developing an academic career in immunology or virology, with a strong interest in innate immunity to viral infections.
One interest of the Jost and Tan laboratories is to study immune responses to the human polyomavirus JC (JCPyV), a virus that infects most people for life but only causes diseases in persons with a compromised immune system. JCPyV reactivation in the brain causes the often fatal progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). There is currently no effective treatment for PML. The postdoctoral fellow will work on a project focusing on how specific subsets of Natural Killer (NK) cell can mediate potent anti-viral responses against JCPyV and protect immunocompromised patients against PML.
We seek:
- Recent Ph.D. graduate in Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology. Experience with flow cytometry and other immunological techniques is required. Prior experience with virology, animal models or primary cell culture is desirable. Computational background is an asset
- Collaborative, ambitious and scientifically driven individual, with a track record of productive research demonstrated by multiple first author publications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently to develop research projects and mentor others
- Eagerness to design and implement new techniques and approaches to model human immune cell function
We offer:
- A highly collaborative and supportive environment with the opportunity for intellectual and professional growth
- Opportunities to gain experience in cutting edge immunological techniques and computational skills
- Excellent environment and resources at CVVR/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
- Position fully supported by NIH funding
Application Materials:
